Brisbears is a social club promoting the brotherhood of gay men who openly challenge the stereotypical image of the male ideal, men who are defiantly and aggressively uninterested in society's perception of gay men as hyper-thin, hairless, fashion victims, who instead celebrate the fact that they are sometimes large, less than perfect and never shave their body hair. Bears also share a broader and richer connection with their bodies, with nature and with spirit.

An integral part of the bear community are our admirers. "Admirers" are those men who do not associate as a bear but are attracted to men who are bears. Not all bears are attracted to other bears, so admirers are a welcomed with open arms.

Brisbears started in 1993, in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, aka the Sunshine State and currently have around three hundred members from all over the state, Australia and World wide. We come from all walks of life, and it is our friendliness, relaxed and non judgemental attitudes toward each other together with tolerance of each other's individuality which are the true hallmarks of the Bear Movement.

Each month we gather together for friendly times, and to celebrate our common interests. If you are ever in Brisbane, be assured you will be made welcome in our den at the Sportsman Hotel, Spring Hill, just a stones throw from the centre of town. So come on in and say Woof to us.

The club is coordinated by a member elected committee. Committees are elected at the Annual General Meeting which is held every year on the 3rd Saturday night of November, just prior to the doors opening for that month's den night. The committee donate their time freely to bring it's members opportunities to socialise and connect with other like minded men. We strive to bring a varied program of events throughout the year. This is a huge task but without a committee there is no club.

 The next AGM is due to be held on November 17th 2012.
