Well men, it’s here and tonight you will see this years new Northern Exposure 2014 Logo, event line up and we will be sharing with you the fun and excitement of what to expect at this years festival.

The NEX2014 Website goes live on Monday 21st July so you can start purchasing your ‘earlybear’ priced packs.

The volunteer committee this year have brought the festival back to a 4 day festival focusing on the ‘favourites’ of bear celebrations with the addition of a couple of exciting new events to include the diversity within our community. We have attempted to cater for everyone’s needs and are sure that you will make the most of this fun packed festival. We have focused on bringing you two festival pack options that are excellent value and affordable. We have also devoted this festival to include our members, by engaging with our members to ‘get involved’ and be part of the fun and frivolity during the whole process.

Pulling a festival like this together is a huge task and has taken many hours of our volunteers time just in the planning of this event to get us to the launch stage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our design guru, Mr Lee Mansor from Sakania Design, he has been amazing and has dedicated hundreds of hours to the design and marketing of this event. I would also like to thank my partner, Rob Bell for being amazing and for all the work he has done on the technical side of pulling this launch together, again many hours of his own time to ensure that this launch goes smoothly and for putting up with me and my every demand.

Last but certainly not least I’d like to thank my Vice President Steve Dows for his support during these past few weeks and the entire devoted NEX subcommittee…it’s been a huge task to regroup, redevelop and produce a festival guide for this years event in such a short time…your efforts have been truly amazing and I hope you all stand back tonight and know you have been instrumental in developing a festival to represent the diversity of our community and providing a safe, positive and nurturing environment to host such an event. We also must thank our platinum sponsors – Kyle Hogan (Sportsman Hotel) and Ray Mackereth (Qnews) who have been incredibly supportive to enable us to develop a festival of this kind for our members and guests.

So lads, tonight will be the beginning of our NEX2014 journey and I hope you enjoy the ride! Please support the event and get your ticket packs early as this will enable us to plan and ensure the best festival for everyone. I look forward to seeing you all at tonight’s launch and throughout the next 3 months as the volunteer committee devote many more hours to pull this event together.

Don’t forget we also have our usual Bears nights coming up with Husky (tonight) July 19, Black and White Party – August 16, Ten Pin Bowling on August 31 and a huge party to celebrate Brisbane Pride Festival on September 20, all before NEX2014… I love being a bear!

Brisbears – The club for cubs, bears, otters, sloths, chub, admirers and all in between! Welcome to Northern Exposures journey for 2014…tell your mates the NEX2014 dates and bring them along to celebrate masculinity and the bear community of Queensland at it’s best.

Yours truly

Brad McKay |President of Brisbears Social Club Inc.

Husky Even in Brisbane it gets a little chilly, so July is the time to break out the flannelette and head downstairs to the Mineshaft for Husky. Saturday 19th July we invite you to let loose your inner lumberjack, cowboy or Brokeback Bear.

Dear Valued Members

In the past few weeks there have been some changes within the Brisbears Committee. Chris MacArthur has been caretaker President; however Chris has been offered an opportunity in Melbourne and is unfortunately leaving us all on the 19th July. The committee and I would like to thank Chris for his support to the committee and dedication to the club over the past 16 months.
We are well under way planning the next 6 months of events including Northern Exposure.

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that the committee have met, nominated and voted that I will be undertaking the role of President as of Monday 23rd June. I will also be continuing as Acting Secretary until we can find an appropriately skilled club member to take this role.

Since March of this year I have been working to develop strategies and procedures to ensure that Brisbears is a sustainable Social Club with the dedicated help of our committee members. Our new membership database, website management system and ticketing system will start being implemented on Monday 23rd June also and Northern Exposure Page will be going live in the first week of July.

Your volunteer committee are working hard to deliver a professional service and provide a fun and safe environment for Bears, Cubs, Otters and their admirers to enjoy.

I look forward to working with your VP, Steve Dows and the team of committee members to build and strengthen the great club of Brisbears.

Thanks for your continued support

Kind regards

Brad McKay
